the sun setting in the west
a rainbow after a storm
the forest at dawn
the starry heavens

your child's eyes
grandma's eyeglasses
daddy's blue sweater
momma's warm smile

the pink of the flamingo
the mane of the lion
the neck of the giraffe
the geese in flight

the words of a psalmist
the wisdom of the king
the beauty of a prayer
the sermon on the mount

"With eyes opened wide we can see so much,
but will we ever learn?
There's more to sight than what we can touch;
the Spirit - who can discern?"

:) This is lovely and very inspiring. I really like your approach with this and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Indeed, the greatest peace and joy comes in simply being aware...

and meditating on the grandeur of it all... we live in an increasingly plasticized materialistic world. if I can get some of the younger ones to stop and think... thanks as always!

I love the free verse and the objects you chose for us to 'observe'. Each one invokes feelings of calmness and serinity, a tranquil quiet and comfort inside of me. I love the rhyming quatrain at the end, too. It is very aesthetically pleasing, to me, at least.

my belief is that a poem should educate, entertain, inspire, or at least inform. otherwise it's just words thrown together (sometimes rather badly, not to sound like an elitist). if you were inspired, I'm happy.

I was~ If you don't mind, I would like to share in your belief of what a poem should do - it is exactly how I feel.
